"CATCH YOU FUCKERS AT A BAD TIME?"

Vern Predicts: Jeremy Renner

vernpredictsMe on Jeremy Renner in my HURT LOCKER review last July:

I think he’ll get an Oscar nomination and a bunch of big roles that hopefully don’t waste his talent too much. In fact I’m gonna go ahead and predict that they’ll give him one of the big comic book roles. We can have Chopper as Hulk, Patrick Bateman as Batman and Jeffrey Dahmer as Captain America.

Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog, today:

Jeremy Renner is in final negotiations to join “The Avengers,” Marvel Studios’ big-screen take on its superhero team that’s being directed by Joss Whedon.

Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides.

So he won’t be playing Captain America, but they’ll at least be co-workers. Not a bullseye for me, but not a bad shot, huh?

Didn’t you once predict that one day our heads would all be wired up to permanent cell phones like Billy Dee Williams’ manservant in STAR WARS? That’s one I hope never happens.

Hawkeye is a pretty awesome character so I’m glad to see him played by a talented actor. Hopefully, for the character and Renner’s sake he gets a ton of screentime

  4. God casting there. I also read that the guy who played Sawyer on Lost is in talks to play a major Marvel character. Anyone got any theories on who he might play?

  5. Dude, I predicted way back when that Jeremy Renner was going to be a star after seeing National Lampoon’s Senior Trip… and while it took a good 15 years for that prediction to be right, I still called that motherfucker.

    Dag’s wins.

I notice the white radiating lines radiating from your “Vern Predicts” logo. Could this be the result of THE SECRET?

  7. Renner is an incredibly solid, friendly, nice guy and is gonna knock everybody out in the forthcoming THE TOWN. Glad to see he’s on a roll. He’s gonna be a terrific Clint Barton / Hawkeye!

  8. see? this is just like I said in seagal predicts:
seagal is sending vern messages through his movies which allow vern to understand the Buddha nature.

outlaw and the lama, coming soon.

  9. Cool for him, glad he is getting the breaks. Thought he was the best thing in SWAT, even though he vanished for big chunks of it and although i am not a huge fan of the Hurt Locker, again he ran away with the show.

Vern since your predictions seem to be coming true, who will win the world cup ?

  10. As a funny book nerd, I highly approve of this casting. Ever since that scene in Dahmer where he pins the cop to the wall with a bow and arrow I knew he was special. Wait, that didn’t happen. Sigh…
Maybe we can start sending Vern funnybooks so he can predict who will play the characters? Then we might always get good casting like Renner…

  11. The last time I saw Renner his face was in transition. He was going through that transformation where you stop being recognizable from your high school photo and start looking like the new ‘old you’ that will be your you until the end of your days.

Matt Damon is also currently shifting too. I could see him going either way. He could either become some guy who gets cooler looking as he gets lines on his face like Bruce Willis, or he could become one of those Ryan O’Neil guys who just gets saggy and fat.

I think Damon will make it into his fifties relatively unchanged and then just fucking Val Kilmer overnight.

  13. Jeremy Renner has never before really impressed me, or made much of any impression on my senses or in my memory, but I can’t front, his role in the recent episode of that comically disturbingly overrated FX show Louie, “In The Woods,” was kinda spectacular.

His performance was some hardcore, grimy, badass, sleazy, menacing, funny-but-not-funny, great shit. He plays a dirtbag drug dealer who happens to represent both a profitable short-term opportunity and a cathartic mirror/glimpse of one possible dead-end future for 13 year old Louie. He’s both a total loser and a successful smalltime entrepreneurial businessman, a wise aphorism-spouting role model *and* an example of exactly whose life you never want to emulate.

I actually despise that show, despite seeing every episode due to wanting to understand the zeitgeist and being in the same room with someone who dvr’d it etc., but that “In The Woods” episode was okay and Renner’s scenes are fucking aces for serious. You don’t need to see (and you fucking shouldn’t) any of the other episodes to “get” it, so I recommend y’all RennerHeads check your on-demand options or the FX channel schedule for when they re-air it.
