"CATCH YOU FUCKERS AT A BAD TIME?"

The Super-Kumite Round 1, Bout 1 winner

This was a tough otn_Super-Kumitene. Already we can see that the competition will be fierce. Both BLOODFIGHT and BLOODSPORT II: THE NEXT KUMITE are solid takes on the formula. Both have some good fights, some good gimmicks, good laughs, good older mentor characters, good villains. This is gonna be a close call, but I know who the winner is.

As much as I enjoyed both, there is one that I liked better. Of the two it had the most awesome music, the craziest villain, and the cleverest way to honor the formula while also doing new things with it.

‘Cause it’s the one that has the traditional master-training-a-young-man movie only as a flashback within a movie where the old master is the protagonist. The winner is BLOODFIGHT.

  1. I’ll be honest, I was kind of hoping you’d be ranking the movies based on the quality of their fake tournaments, and not on their qualities as art.

  2. Way to go Team Bolo.

I hope this doesn’t mean you won’t be giving some sort of an opinion on Bloodsport 3 and 4, Vern. I’ve never seen them but I’d like to see if you think they’re worth watching.

  4. I’ve seen Bloodsport 3 & 4 and they are awful. Part 3 is just another rehashing of the basic Bloodsport formula, but you can tell no one really cares (not like they did for part 2 – where you can tell they were actually trying to make a decent sequel).

Part 4 also stars Bernhardt but for some reason he isn’t the same character from 2 & 3, instead he’s a cop and there are fights in a prison, and it’s really shitty and boring as hell… I guess they just took a generic cop script they had lying around and inserted some tournament crap and slapped the Bloodsport name on it.
