Where have all the heroes gone? | Politics? | Forum
Okay, this isn't REALLY 100% about politics, but for any reason I think it's closer to this, than to "miscallaneous".
I try to make it short: Recently I noticed that we seem to live in a time, where people try to change the world for all the wrong reasons. I'm not just talking about the so-called "slacktivists"* or those iPad wielding hipsters, who have no personal reason to join the Occupy movement, other than it makes them look cool**. No, most of all I talk about people like Julian Assange, Paul Watson or Kim "Dotcom".
Now, we can't deny that Wikileaks is a great thing and even Sea Shepard, with their (comparibly soft) eye-for-an-eye tactics against wale hunters have a certain right to be considered heroes in other people's eyes. But come on, am I the the only one who thinks that Assange and Watson are just spotlight hogging attention whores, who only fight their fight to look cool? (It's VERY obvious with that Kim Dotcom guy, whose gives a fuck about freedom of speech and cares more for his bank account, doesn't matter how many times 12 year old kids, who don't want to pay for their movies and music, click "like" on his silly videos. You sir, are no hero, you are the 1%!)
They let other people do all the dirty work (like when Watson commanded one of his female crew members to get beaten up by angry protestors, instead of doing it himself), and when the police knocks at their door, they suddenly pull the martyr card and cry about how they were framed.
So I really started to wonder why is it, that you can be the most arrogant scumbag in the world, as long as you represent a stick-it-to-the-man attitude.
I know this is a cliche, but: DISCUSS!
*Those kids who think that signing a petition on Facebook or tweeting a link to a video will overturn a dictatorship.
**Nothing against those people who really started the movement, because they had enough and REALLY tried to make a change.
And then he pooped on the podium.
The previous few ages have been littered with renowned people acting badly, and I do in detail have a hero who after all these years I find to still be gripping.
