Any thoughts on DEAD SPACE 3? I just downloaded the original on PSN. Its one of those games I´ve been wanting to play but never got around too. A solid scary game on late summer nights is right up my ally.

But in DS3 they look like they´ve brightened it up and ...I...don´t know. Hard to construct the right tension

in lighter areas, Darkness will always be more effective since it represents the unknown. You don´t know shit what happens since you can´t see.

Also,co-op in a survival horror game is never a good idea. Look at shitty RE5. I guess its too early to judge it, could be good. At least it looks pretty intense. But the horror aspect is downplayed in the trailer. But please don´t turn it into Gears of War,Electronic Arts!

I was not too crazy about the original Dead Space, I wound up not finishing it, however I loved Dead Space 2, my main problem with the original Dead Space was that the levels were dull and repetitive, which they directly addressed in Dead Space 2, not only was there a greater variety in levels but there was also more interesting stuff to look at

but I'm worried about Dead Space 3, you're right that co-op has no place in horror games (and that was indeed what ruined Resident Evil 5), I'm hoping it's totally optional without any AI partner if you decide to go it solo (but I have a bad feeling that wont be the case) and from what I've seen of the setting well, the whole "ice world" thing is awfully similar to Lost Planet and it looks like another industrial zone, I want more civilian areas like in Dead Space 2 (why not set it in another space ship, but a civilian one instead of a "planet cracker"?)

but we'll see, maybe it will turn out alright

I have no problem with a game giving you the option to co-op, but forcing you to do it is plain stupid.

But Fear 3 is a blast, although I haven't played the first two.

That whole forcing-you-to-be-online for Diablo 3 scandal is an atrocity.

I'm not a survival horror fan, but I could think of a few ways co-op could be good, at least for online. It'd involve subverting the mechanics of co-op play by at one point have the players seperated, and the game blocking their mics and turning off chat communications somehow, so the players would be alone and have to make their way to the same destination seperately, not knowing if you'll meet up with them again or can make it through alone. If the game could also work on pull it off too, you could have jump scares and paranoia over one character glimpsing/meeting up with their partner suddenly and thinking it was someone else. Maybe emphasising how vulnerable characters are alone would make co-op horror work.

I just started playing SIM CITY on ye olde SNES again. This time even without the "endless money" cheat. But only because I can't remember it and I'm too lazy to use Google.

And then he pooped on the podium.

5 hours into DEAD SPACE and it is easily one of the best games released the last 5 years. The production values are amazing. Sound design unbelievable, graphics incredible. What strikes me most at this point is compared to DOOM3 where it was just black the entire time, they mix up the lighting, making the experience not as repetitive visually.

It also contained a moment which i will consider a landmark memory. A moment where I literally screamed out at a scare. Sure,I´ve been suckered into a scare before by game developers, but I have never before went ARGH! A great adrenaline rush and credit to the game designers for actually scaring the living shit out of me.

Griff, about the levels not being varied, I do not agree. They have out door space stuff as welll as zero gravity in great open areas. There is enough variety for me at least these hours I have been playing. Also, its a spaceship, you can´t expect meadows or volcano areas in a game that takes place inside a industrial created setting. A spaceship.

This is the game https://dmnd.games/games/brute-arena where you can open boxes with new battle weapons, skills and improvements. Furthermore, the game can be played and is accessible through all the social platforms that you have. I myself don't see any other suitable website than this one.
