What are you guys playing? What should I be playing?

I've got a PS3 but I mostly use it for Blu Rays and Netflix. I currently own two games, Uncharted 3 which hasn't seen any play since I beat it (awesome series though) and Modern Warfare 3, which gets played daily. I'm curmudgeonly and stuck in my Drake/Call of Duty ways and have a hard time branching out. I've played both Arkham Asylum and City, and they were fantastic, but after I ran through the single player campaigns they started collecting dust.

Anything else out there that's blowing your collective skirt(s) up?

Really enjoyed Max Payne 3. Great story, fun, straightforward gameplay, and a decent length. Not too easy, either.

Arkham City's new story DLC has JUST gotten released this week. It's called Harley Quinn's Revenge and is a follow up to the ending. Won't be released in my country till tomorrow, so I don't know how good it is though.

I actually just got finished having a bit of a gaming marathon, so I'm taking a little break and not playing anything at the moment

the games I played are

Batman Arkham City

Alan Wake

Alan Wake's American Nightmare

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record

Dead Space 2

Fable 3

Psychonauts

all of which get high recommendations from me, except for Fable 3, which was kind of meh

in other gaming news, it sure sucks that Bioshock Infinite was delayed huh? I know that the more polishing a game gets the better, but I still really wish it was coming out in October instead of February Frown

Right now I am playing the Jak & Dexter HD collection, with all the good and bad memories I had with those games its great fun. Jak 2 is almost the same mean sonofabitch I remember it to be.

Looking forward to the Ratchet & Clank trilogy. Some of my alltime favourite platforming games in one package.

Purchased the Sly Cooper collection cheap on PSN and I´m having a blast with those games as well.

Pretty sick and tired of all new games being all gritty and serious myself, thats why this summer I´ll be playing these wonderfully crafted platform adventures. Still holds upp pretty well after so many years.

Currently limping through Demon's Souls, which is hypnotic to learn and masochistic to continue.  Have you played Red Dead Redemption?  Very immersive, and probably in the same neighborhood of challenge as the Uncharted games.

No love for Mass Effect? I really enjoyed the first 98% of the trilogy(stupid ending). The multiplayer in the third game is pretty decent. Also playing Metal Gear Solid 3 in between bouts of Forza Motorsport.

Inspector Li, please note that Dark Souls is a very worthy follow up to Demon's Souls, more magnificent in nearly every facet.

I don't know if they still have the Demon's Souls servers running?  The ability to summon friendly phantoms to assist you with the bosses was absolutely critical to me being able to beat that game.

I've been playing Diablo 3.  It's cute.  Best Blizzard graphics to date, etc.  Really though, in the 12 years since Diablo 2, games have come quite a long way, and it seems a little archaic to be playing a Diablo game.  I mean, the whole gameplay model is so simple and repetitive compared to this or that modern RPG... it'll stroke your nostalgia, though, if you've fond memories of the franchise.

Is anybody nerdy enough to play Minecraft or Dwarf Fortress?

Also I've been working my way through the God of War collection (ie 1 and 2 remastered for PS3).  My god these are amazing games.  Stunningly well-crafted gameplay.  Elder-school stuff where you have to learn the enemy's attack animations to properly react to their offense.  And they are probably way more violent than anything else I've played.  For example when you kill a Siren, you make as if to dip her down as in a ballroom dance, but you bend her so far the back of her head touches her heels, presumably obliterating the point where her spine connects to her pelvis.  Wow.

For some reason GOD OF WAR 3 doesn´t appeal to me as much. Perhaps its all the gritty dark atmosphere that is a complete shock to the wonderfully atmospheric and colourful PS2 games.Does not compute with my own perception of the greek mythology. I downloaded the PSP convertions, cause I´d rather play them over the big brother spectacle that is GoW3. Never finished it,probably never will.

...it also does not help that GoW3 seem to cater more to comic book fans with its beautiful ( but retarded) Spider-Manishcreditsequence. And the gods themselves looks like fuckin X-men.Poseidon looks NOTHING like he did in GoW1. Now he is just a young douche who gets his comeuppance.

I liked the darker world of GoW 3.  Kratos had gone so overboard looking for vengence he was literally destroying the world round him.  There were times during the game when I stopped to look at everything coming down around me and actually stop to wonder if this entire epic saga was worth the price.  Then I realized I was having these thoughts about a fucking video game where the previous installment had me laughing while I gleefully murdered Harry Hamlin.  That's a hell of a journey and it makes the ending payoff in a huge way.  No foul cry if it isn't your cup of tea.

Sometime today or tomorrow I hope to earn my first Platinum trophy by breaking out of jail in Skyrim.  I can't recommend the Bethesda open world stuff enough.  Probably my favorite games of all time.  I'm a sucker for creating my own narrative I guess.

I'll have to get in on that Arkham City DLC.  Man, Arkham city was my SECOND favorite game of the last year and it's an easy top 10 for all time.  Truly this is a wondrous age we live in fellows.

I kinda tired of all the grittiness in videogames these days, thats why I´m goin back in time with Naughty Dogs, Sucker punch and Insomniacs PS2 classics. More vibrant and fun adventures. Whatever happened to those days?

That's a fair complaint for today's games.  The last pure fun game I remember playing was Super Mario Galaxy a few years ago.  I'm sure there's others, but they are few and far between.

I'll still fire up the Dreamcast for Crazy Taxi or the Powerstone games when I want a shot of pure joy.

Good suggestions. I'd like to give Max Payne 3 a try. Have played through all the Fallouts (LOVED 3).

Looking forward to Bioshock Infinite whenever it gets released. Also would like to give Red Dead Redemption a shot, have heard pretty good things.

Any Uncharted fans? I was glad to read the David O. Russell film version with Mark Wahlberg as Drake got canned. He's a terrible choice for Drake. If it was 10 years ago I'd say Nathan Fillion (yeah I'm that guy), but he's a bit round around the edges now. Jensen Ackles strikes me as a good choice if they ever do go through with it.

Yeah, love Uncharted. Neil Burger (Limitless) is in charge of the movie now and is apparently doing something different from what Russell had planned. He could be good, and if he brought Bradley Cooper on to play Drake, I think he'd be a really good choice.

Played BATMAN! Arkham City: Harley Quinn's Revenge today. It was fine for what it was, but I did expect more. It doesn't shake things up or really add to the game's ending in any real way, but it has it's moments and it gives you a little peek at BATMAN!'s mental state after what happened in the main game. Playing as Robin in a story context is nice.

One thing I'm more interested in playing now is Sleeping Dogs, the open world action game what was originally going to be True Crime: Hong Kong, but is now it's own thing. Recent gameplay footage showing how the combat works has me pretty intrigued.

Far Cry 3 could be good too.

back in January I played all 3 of the God of Wars (the first two in the HD collection) and man, is that an awesome series

I would say 2 is probably my favorite, but I love 3 as well, that game has without a doubt the best looking console graphics I've ever seen

here's hoping God of War 4 doesn't disappoint

Renfield, you are correct, the Demon Souls servers are shutting down (or already have.)  I'm too ornery to co-op, which may be why I've still got 9 bosses or so.

Stu, good tip re Burger!  People Who Know told me it was moving toward a start date, but they were oblivious to whoever was in charge.

First look at the Skyrim add-on Dawnguard

So you're fighting or joining vampires in an attempt to either prevent or bring about endless night. Seems promising.

Griff - I finally got to God of War 3 and I absolutely agree, best graphics I've seen on my PS3.  I don't really get some of the comments about it.  The opening credits look like a comic book?  Yeah if all comic books looked like 300 or cave paintings.  It's not bright and colorful enough?  Dude it's a GOD OF WAR game!  Is the problem that the orb chests are no longer primary colors?  These games were always dark as fuck, and the first two don't have anything as lighthearted and humorous as the minigame you play to fuck Aphrodite.

Anyways.  I do agree overall with the complaint about games being gloomy.  I remember when I got Resistance (one of the first next gen titles I played) I was annoyed that they were so into this murky, muddy, war torn aesthetic that they weren't wowing me with pretty colorful graphics.

Also Skyrim is so grey looking compared to Oblivion.

But there are indeed games that address this issue.  I haven't played the second one, but Little Big Planet has perhaps the most magical, beautiful environment I've ever seen in a video game (the Mexican wedding level).  No shortage of gorgeous user-created levels as well.  Also I just got Saints Row the Third and it's pure joyful silliness with lots of cartoony fun.
