Yep. i am currently  fifty fucking hours into METAL GEAR SOLID 5 PART 2: THE PHANTOM PAIN and overall I am enjoying it. Critics have been drooling endlessly over it. The game is fine.

I have played all the previous games and I can say that from a gameplay perspective it has the tightest controls, best stealth mechanics and an overwhelming amount of choice in infiltrating enemy bases. Inspired by the FAR CRY games you can now tag enemies which helps a lot. I´ve for a long time felt that the stealth in the previous games have been fidgety at best and arbitrary at worst when you get spotted by an enemy when you sneak up on them. There is a slight window which helps this time and I think the whole thing just plays better than previous games. It plays like a dream but is still presenting a decent challenge, by posting  many more soldiers in one spot than before. In this case it is by far the best MG game yet.

I have played the previous games and I never thought I was going to say this; but I kind of miss the cutscenes. Or at least a more tightly told story. You can spend with the open world design of the game HOURS without progressing in the story by doing side quests that are required to develop your villainous PMC Mother Base. It´s grinding and maybe a bit repetetive. But the best part of the game is how  Kojima instead of going  REVENGE OF THE SITH by pinpointing the exact moment when Big Boss becomes a villain shows his arc in a bit of muddy waters. Even now he and his cohorts think their cause is a justified one, when they are basically building a fascist nation. The best  villains don´t know they are villains and those shades of grey has been built up for a few games now. I really like that.

By the impressively postmodern unreliable narrative prologue I can pretty much guess how this is gonna play out, but from a story perspective that is the only memorable moment so far. Which is a shame.

Has anyone played this one yet? I bought it on PS3, because fuck next gen facebook-consoles!
