Originally by Sonny Curtis, later covered by the Bobby Fuller Four and again later covered by The Clash and again later by Green Day, and by countless other acts over the decades.

Shwarma: Avengers approved.

A few years ago, Electric Six totally made up for their bad RADIO GAGA cover (which they were forced to do by the record label anyway) with this cover of THE RUBBERBAND MAN. I also love this fanmade video, which uses an original Spinners performance.

And then he pooped on the podium.

Working my way through the kinda-stupid-but-addictive True Blood, I note that the soundtrack kicks all sorts of ass and features a lot of awesome covers.

Anybody know who does the "Season of the Witch" cover?

No cover song thread is complete without Rage Against The Machine's cover of Afrika Bambaata's RENEGADES OF FUNK:

And the best cover version of any song ever. Period: Johnny Cash's HURT:

And just for fun: The Automatics cover Fatboy Slim:

And then he pooped on the podium.

Malcolm McLaren. "Kill Bill vol. 2". As far as soundtrack moments go, this is about as good as it gets.

Wow, I really like CJ's suggestions. I've never heard that RAtM song before but it's a lot of fun.

Three versions of David Bowie's HEROES:

The first one is the best. It's the one by The Wallflowers, from the Emmerich GODZILLA soundtrack:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....g2VdB4YpzQ

This here is the weirdest one. The Finnish Cello Metal band Apocalyptica got the singer of Rammstein and let him sing a German version of it:

That doesn't really count as cover version IMO, but around 10 years ago, when David Guetta was still a respected underground-ish DJ and not the most hated man in the scene, because he accidently had success (and then later started to jump on the shitty Hip Pop train), he heavily sampled the Bowie classic for his track JUST FOR ONE DAY. Interesting enough: It even got the official David Bowie seal of approval!

And then he pooped on the podium.

I always liked that Wallflowers version of "Heroes". And that's saying a lot, since "Heroes" the album is one of my all-time favorites. Normally when I love a song that much, I will resent any and all covers of it (pretty much the same as with film. I'm sure you wouldn't have guessed that from my reaction to the news that they were making a "Total Recall" remake.) But this one I think kinda "got it". It changed just enough to be unique without butchering what made the original song great.

The Rammstein version I did not know, but holy shit! That's actually kinda amazing.

Talking about Rammstein (and Apocalyptica): Here are Apocalyptica, covering together with Nina Hagen,  the "German godmother of punk", Rammstein's Seemann: (This video probably starts with a commercial, but I couldn't find a good YouTube version)

And Rammstein cover Kraftwerk's DAS MODEL (Please listen at least to the intro, which always makes me smile.)

And then he pooped on the podium.

Oh shit, what have I done?!

(Nah, just kidding, I don't hate Rammstein. They take themself a lot less serious than their critics do and are sometimes fun to listen to. I justwould never buy a full album from them.)

And then he pooped on the podium.
