BADASS 100 revision 2006

Thank you everyone for submitting nominees to help out with the long awaited 2006 revision of the BADASS 100 list. Even if you didn't, you are cool in my book so you can vote with us.

I think we've all learned alot in the years since the original list and are anxious to improve on it. Just from looking over the new nominees and comparing them to the ones I got the first time around it's obvious that either the World Badass Committee or the world it represents has changed alot. This time around there was much less stretching it - trying to wedge old classics or personal favorites in even when they are not badass by any reasonable definition. Well, there was one guy, but I forgive him. There was also a little bit of a regional shift in interest. Last time around there were Hong Kong movies all over the place, now it's leaning a little more toward Korea and Japan. I'm sure the changeover and the effect that had on the Hong Kong film industry is a big part of it. But I also think tastes are changing. Last time there were all kinds of Michelle Yeoh, Jackie Chan and Jet Li movies on the list, this time only one last minute voter nominated any of those. (I re-upped some of the old nominees though just to see what would happen.)

I also think that the spread of DVDs and the many classic releases that have come out since the last list have helped alot of us to catch up with the old classics of Badass Cinema. The first time around, the original GET CARTER with Michael Caine was nominated, but didn't make the top 100. This time it was one of the most often nominated films. I'm sure this is because with the DVD release it's become much more widely seen around the world.

So anyway here's what you do: highlight the two lists below, copy and paste into an email. After each title that you've seen, give a badass rating of 1-10, 10 being the highest. Decimals are allowed. Obviously, don't give a rating if you haven't seen the movie, even if you think you would hate it.

Because I am following the Badass auteur theory I have listed the primary badass in parentheses, but you are not ONLY rating the performance. Please give an overall rating for the badass level of the movie. In other words, if the performance is enough to make the whole movie incredibly badass, that's fine. If it requires the supporting performances or the awesome soundtrack or the great filmatism to push it over the top, that's also a legitimate reason to give it a high rating.

If there is something you think just doesn't belong on the list, you can write NOPE instead of a zero. This includes movies that are great but don't really fit on a badass list in your opinion, or movies that flat out suck and don't deserve to be sharing that company. I know I'm gonna be using that on ARMY OF DARKNESS, as much as I like it. You do as you wish. But hopefully this will weed out the pretenders and the not quites.

If there's something that you think really should be on there but isn't, you can give me write-ins at the end along with their ratings. Please don't give me a list of like ten thousand of them though. Just out of courtesy. I am a human being.
