doesn't the nun apologize for making such a mess of the bathroom, what with the whole wrist slitting thing, and Norman tells her "that's ok, i've seen it look worse."? that still cracks me up.

This one has a unique Carter Burwell score too. The main theme amusingly remixed as a pop song in the bar, if I recall. And it has the lovely Julliette Cummins who, best as I can tell, made a livin at dyin. (Friday V, Slumber Party II, etc). Also, that great shot of Perkins walking the length of the motel in Medium Close Up on his way to his rendezvous with his mother, not so subtly losing his shit. (I think even Ebert mentioned that shot in his review).

And if PSYCHO II was the 'Unforgiven' of the series (much of the film devoted to 'I ain't like that no more' sentiment, and then climaxing with a glorious return to Norman Bates form [killing women, talking in his mother's voice, opening the motel, and sticking mom's corpse up in the window]) then Part III is indeed back to business for Norman. And apparently, business is thriving in Fairvale.

I also find it amusing that the sheriff and everyone else around town seem to be sympathetic and even protective of Norman. Like he's the Fairvale town mascot. He gives them some identity. As long as their local loony is checking girls into his motel and playin with corpses up in his spooky house, they matter. Fuck that new highway.

Vern - that bullshit ending of PSYCHO 3 was apparently forced on Perkins by Universal, because they wanted possibly an exit for another sequel.

Even though part 4 ignored that bullshit.

Charles Edward Pogue wrote the first draft of the fly, but beyond the mixing DNA idea it was almost all Cronenberg.

I also don't think 3 is as good as 2 but it does have that freaky scene where Fahey makes a strobe light using a lamp and his crotch, so there you go.

Hitchcock also made people scared of phone booths, in The Birds. Well not really. But maybe that was homage.
