Hey Vern, I finally got around to watching this after preserving it on DVD last year for future generations to enjoy. It did have an endearingly ramshackle charm, and I found myself really rooting for this guy to fulfill his dream of owning a movie theater. This set it apart from most horror movies where I don't really care about the characters' goals. I'm not gonna lose sleep if the annoying teenagers don't get to enjoy their long weekend at Jimmy's uncle's cabin, but it bummed me out when ol' Mitford had to go back to selling shoes. You just know that's gonna put a strain on his marriage. He'll probably take out his frustrations on his wife, saying, "This is what you wanted, isn't it? You wanted an oatmeal-faced mutant to kill a couple of nerds so my dreams would fail and I'd never have anything to call my own. Does that make you happy? Does it?"

I love these movies that were clearly shot on weekends over a long span of time because you can see weird continuity issues. My favorite in this one was the part where Detective Wombat said that his wife had made him shave to explain why he had a mustache in one scene and not in the next. The actor must have had a wedding to go to or something and that clearly trumped his commitment to THE MEATEATER.

"The Vagrant" actually got released?! I read an article about that in Fangoria in 1990 or so and never heard a single thing about it ever again. I was sure it was gathering dust on a shelf somewhere.

Nice observation about the people who actually made this film and their dreams and ambitions. BEST WORST MOVIE and TROLL 2 are a window into that whole world of grade z films created by people who have no ability to actually make movies but either really want to be filmmakers or delude themselves into thinking they are. Trust me, there are THOUSANDS of films like this out there. I've worked on the crew of a few of them.

Mr. Majestyk - I figure the Slasher is endagered due to inbreeding. And incest. I blame inbreeding and incest. By which I mean, of course, Platinum Dunes.

"Unfortunately, the future of this endangered species is in doubt. Both in captivity and in the wild, a preponderance of psychosexual inhibitors normally precludes the males from procreating."

That "Slasher Search" icon cracks me up every time I see it. It's like Star Search. But with slashers.

Or maybe something from the National Geographic: "In his natural habitat, the North American Psychotic Slasher can be seen exhibiting remarkable stealth and determination when approaching its prey."
