Well yeah, you're right, but I think he did kinda genuinely want to help his friends at the beginning. Of course he enabled them to leech off him, and really didn't have as much to offer them as he thought he did, but if he had been closer to Vinnie Chase than Billy Walsh things might have turned out OK for his band.

I don't think Duffy's problem was that he didn't maintain his principles. I think his problem was that his principles involved him being a total douchebag at all times.

I watched OVERNIGHT last night. And this review should be mandatory follow-up reading for anyone doing the same. Shit, it should be in a pamphlet that gets handed to you when you get off the plane in Hollywood. Well actually I guess the plane goes to LA in general and then you gotta get to Hollywood somehow, so maybe they should be handing it out on the bus to Hollywood or giving taxi drivers a little extra to slip it in their fare's luggage or slipping it under the windshield wipers of all the cars in the parking lot or something. Maybe festooning the streets with it, throwing handfuls of copies from a circling helicopter every day. It's a great review is what I'm trying to say, one of your best.

Interesting that this review is almost six years old, but that your opinions on movie websights are more or less exactly as they are in the recent KICK-ASS and SCOTT PILGRIM reviews. Anyway, Troy Duffy, what a fucking jackass. I am an aspiring screenwriter, and I actually do have my foot in the door. But I share most of your opinions here, I will always strive for excellence even if there's temptation to take the cheap and easy alternative. I have a feeling that the struggle to maintain your principles is usually a lot more subtle than what Troy Duffy went through, but nevertheless.

I rented this as a double-dvd box with BOONDOCK saints, but I could only watch that at 16x speed... God it was horrible, and I see Troy Duffy's finally got his sequel together: http://ie.movies.ign.com/articles/102/1021492p1.html, and that he hasn't changed a bit, god bless his evil little self.
